Job Duties: Establish weld engineering parameters, weld engineering sequences, and baseline information associated with new product launches. Write weld engineering procedures and process plans, evaluate methods, evaluate cost, and establish/document weld engineering sequences, processes and quality. Develop new weld engineering techniques and procedures, troubleshoot weld engineering issues, and assist with qualifying new welders and weld certification process. Develop weld robotic programs and assist in developing appropriate jig and fixtures. Debug/troubleshoot MIG, TIG, and resistance welders. Perform customer support activities, including weld audit coordination and customer site visits.
Requirements: The position of Welding Engineer requires a Bachelor’s degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation. In the alternative, the employer will also accept a Master’s degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation.
Additionally, the applicant must have experience with: 1. Gas Metal Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding principle and techniques to pressure vessels and fuel tanks; 2. Programming parameters of various brands of robotic welding machines; 3. Troubleshooting, identifying root cause, and implementing sustainable corrective actions for welding defects through changes in specifications, process, or programming parameters; 4. Reading customer prints, diagrams, and specifications to determine production rates, set-up time, and tooling costs for both manual and robotic welding; and 5. Failure Mode Effects Analysis with pressure vessels for any steel or aluminum tank failures attributable to welding.
