Overview

Analyzes drawings, specifications, and other relevant materials to calculate detailed cost estimates for fabricated products. Includes determining resource requirements such as materials, machinery, labor, processes, tooling, and setup times. Must have metal fabrication estimating experience or strong familiarity with fabrication equipment and methods (laser, forming, welding, stamping, assembly, etc.).

Responsibilities

  1. Conducts analysis of technical documentation to identify and quantify resource requirements to ensure estimate accuracy.
  2. Collaborates cross-functionally with teams such as sales, engineering, purchasing, tooling and operations to gather insights, resolve issues, and ensure accurate and realistic cost estimates.
  3. Engages with outside vendors to establish costs for items not supported internally.
  4. Collaborates with sales application engineering on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) cost and quality improvement proposals.
  5. Maintains updated knowledge of manufacturing processes, capabilities, and constraints.
  6. Enters quote requirements into the company’s quoting tool and uses discretion to change outputs as necessary.

Qualifications

Job Skill Requirements

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders.
  • Ability to read design prints and utilize Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Computer Aided Modeling (CAM) software.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree in engineering, business, sales, or similar preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Metal fabrication estimating experience or strong familiarity with fabrication equipment and methods (laser, forming, welding, stamping, assembly, etc.).
  • Knowledge of tooling, jigs, and fixtures preferred.
