Our team is growing and we're looking to add Material Handlers to our brand new Hazel Park facility!

As a Material Handler, you will transport incoming and outgoing materials to designated areas as assigned. Operate forklift, electrical hoist or other power driven equipment to load or move materials. Supply production area with needed materials from inventory. Load or unload material onto or from pallets, trays, or shelves. Process required paperwork using RF (Radio Frequency) system when/where available. Performs preventive maintenance such as: daily vehicle inspection, recharging batteries, or replacing liquefied propane gas (LP) tank.

This person is expected to promote a team atmosphere necessary to get the job done efficiently and effectively. Evaluate, recommend, and implement changes in the department as necessary. Works with production Supervisors, Production Support Coordinator’s & Inventory Control to make effective changes in Systems and Procedures.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinates material movement between departments per the routing requirements.
  • Sorts questionable materials per Quality Control’s request.
  • Prints and distributes pick tickets and performs computer transactions as necessary.
  • Organize sequence of pulling material and relays information to Material Support.
  • Ensures production schedules are met: by timely and accurate processing and movement of goods. Assists during daily peak times to include operating material handling equipment and perform all necessary computer transactions.
  • Ensures good communication and feedback with management, employees on their shift and between shifts.
  • When assigned, assists the supervisor/area manager with Continuous Improvement Projects, evaluation of new equipment, determination of training needs and interviewing/hiring.
  • Monitors and enforces shop floor control systems.
  • Studies systems and procedures for opportunities for improvement. Proposes changes to Materials Manager. Assures successful implementation of approved improvements.
  • Works with Raymond repair personnel to ensure equipment maintenance is current. Also maintains battery charging stations.
  • Works with Area Managers and other production department supervisors to facilitate most efficient carrying out of receiving duties.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications
  • Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or HSED/GED; six months to one year related experience and/or training a plus.
  • Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals written in English. Ability to write routing reports and correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively in English before groups.
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain MEC Material Handling Certification and CLD License A/B.
