    Responsibilities

    Job Description

    MEC, Inc. is currently looking for a Welding Engineer for Wytheville/Atkins location.  And in this position the top candidate will be responsible in developing and maintaining weld schedules and robotic programs.  Hands-on ability of debugging and troubleshooting MIG welders, TIG welders, and resistance welders.  Prepare cycle time estimates in support of estimating activity; manufacturing support activities, problem resolution, and continuous improvements.  Establish weld parameters, weld sequences, and other baseline information associated with launch of new product.  Monitor and supervise weld validation activities related to product launch projects.  Participate in launch team activities.  Oversee fixture and equipment design and build as related to product launches.  Customer support activities including weld audit coordination and customer site visits.

    • Able to prioritize and apply sound judgment
    • May require negotiation skills
    • May require the ability to manage supplier relationships and contracts
    • Strong organizational, communication, and management skills
    • Strong problem solving skills
    • Strong analytical and master data management skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook
    • Skilled in project management with cross functional teams; meeting facilitation; prior tooling shop tryouts preferred
    • Able to understand the full scope and impact of assigned initiatives; full understanding of metal forming and assembly operations including MIG and resistant welding, coil fed progressive stamping, line dies, e-coating, powder coating, tube bending, cutting and forming
    • Communicates effectively with various organizational levels
    • Must be able to travel

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • 1-2 years’ work experience in field or related area
    • Must be eligible to work in the United States
