MEC North America's premier Employee-owned Contract Manufacturing, Prototype, Coating, and Tube Bending Services Company is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineering to be part of the MEC Greenwood, SC team.

 

The Continuous Improvement Engineering will perform Lean/Six Sigma and 5S projects in conjunction with all stakeholders (MEC Employees, Suppliers and Customers) to improve quality, delivery, and cost initiatives within the facility.  Lead, coach and train project teams in the use of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles and methodologies.  Lead or Assist in the development and implementation of optimized, cost effective manufacturing processes, methods and controls. Develop and create plans for plant layout, equipment installation and work cell layout to optimize efficiencies. Interfaces and coordinates with manufacturing, sales, planning, design staff and customers/suppliers to ensure efficient production methods and quality and delivery results.  Assist and participate in cross functional teams for problem solving, root cause analysis and corrective actions.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops strategies and programs that improve the productivity and efficiency of assigned work processes.
  • Applies various problem solving and productivity techniques to evaluate the improvement of recommended strategies and programs.
  • Instructs others in continuous process improvements, including the use of various problem solving, LSS and Lean Manufacturing techniques such as value stream or process mapping along with cost management.
  • Facilitates employee teams to build cohesiveness and improve the overall results of the respective teams' tasks.
  • Complete total facility layout with specific attention to effective and efficient workflow through work cell creation, equipment layout, and general work flow through the entire manufacturing process.  Equal Opportunity Employer

Qualifications

We seek an individual who has a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university or 10+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent of combination of education and experience.  LSS Black Belt.  Trained in Lean Manufacturing Techniques (5S, Setup Reduction, Standard Work, etc.)

Education and/or Experience  Bachelor's degree (B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations   Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.  Green Belt Certification at a minimum.

 

Other Skills and Abilities  Experience in metal fabrication that would include laser, brake, weld & finish coating applications.

 

Demonstrated experience in Six Sigma project implementation, training/mentoring Green Belts, developing LSS training materials, execution of transactional Six Sigma projects, application of Lean/Rapid Improvement events, techniques & tools.

 

Proficient with CAD and MS Office applications

 

Language Skills  

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills  

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills  

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, Minitab.
