Overview

The Quality Technician provides support to manufacturing operations or Quality Engineering by tests and / or inspection of products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates collected data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned as necessary by the Quality Supervisor / Manager or their designate.

 

Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or standards in order to inspect or test product throughout the manufacturing processes to determine if it is fit for conformance or customer requirements.

 

Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.

 

Records test data, applying statistical process control procedures where applicable.

 

Documents reports to validate or identify details for deviations from existing standards, where and when required.

 

Cleans repairs and calibrates inspection equipment as required.

 

Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.

 

Prepares graphs or charts of data and enters data into computer for analysis.

 

Operates and programs various types of measurement equipment required to evaluate product conformance (i.e. coordinate measuring machines, Faro and Roamer Arm measurement equipment, surface finish analyzers, hardness tester, optical comparators, and hand held devices.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.   

 

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Other skills and abilities:

Must be able to use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, tape measures, etc; must be able to read blueprints

No certifications needed.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
